The Belgian then valiantly defended three break points, forcing six deuces in the penultimate game, though her efforts proved in vain as Swiatek eventually got her way before serving to love to see out the match.

Swiatek will face Emma Navarro, who beat Daria Kasatkina 6-4 5-7 7-5, in the next round.
